Full Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Cloud Infrastructure Architect is to work with IT and business leaders in providing a holistic transformation vision and to determine the impact & outcomes that a project will deliver.

They will also own the evaluation, design and implementation of the technology solution / infrastructure service. The incumbent will tackle any issues related to operational effectiveness, business change, security, integrity and performance all in line with the required business environment and needs.

They will also identify the potential technology innovations and engage with Technology peers and business stakeholders in line with roadmaps and strategic goals.,

  • Interacting with project teams as required to gain an understanding of the business environment, technical landscape, end user requirements and organisational strategic direction.

  • Design and implement solutions that align with our IT strategy and business goals

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on all aspects of cloud computing best practices, standards, and trends.

  • Ability to evaluate, propose and influence alternative solutions and integrate new internal or 3rd party solutions and services.

  • Knowledge or appreciation of some the listed technologies : AI / ML, Big Data, IaaS, PaaS, DevOps, Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, Linux based applications

  • Serve as a technical Server design authority to multiple projects and group business units.

  • Align to our governance and risk processes.

  • Demonstrate awareness of ongoing and future requirements relating to Cyber Security

  • Have in depth experience of the relevant technology trends and be proactive in line with our business and technology roadmap & vision.

  • Maintain documentation of design and build guidelines, procedures, standards, and operational controls.

  • Implement a capacity planning program for servers and storage.

  • Design highly available, redundant, public cloud architectures, utilising IaaS and PaaS, for large scale, mission critical applications and high-transaction workloads

  • Design and implement new capabilities that address gaps and provide an integrated end-to-end scalable enterprise-class service.

  • Provide innovation, research and development expertise to City, including proof of concepts and TDA workshops.

  • Mentor and coach more junior team members and contribute as a peer to discussions across the team.

  • Work closely with product development teams, analysts, developers and business stakeholders to implement production-ready infrastructure services that support their requirements.

  • Aligning to cybersecurity and business objectives

  • Manage and leverage partner solutions and relationships.


  • LEADERSHIP
  • Support the resourcing plan for the team, extending to in / outsourcing to ensure a complete change and run service is in place and capable.

  • Help set team goals and technical direction while ensuring they align with the goals of the Technology and Information Security roadmap.

  • Proactive collaboration and management of partners delivering new, evolving or out-tasked services, e.g. Cisco networking, Cyber Defence, Microsoft Azure

  • Provide technical assistance and mentoring for more junior team members and team members as required.

    Degree level qualification in computer science

  • 5 years + in a similar role

  • Microsoft Azure certifications (AZ-305, SC-300)

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or CompTIA Network+


  • Desirable
  • SAFe certification

  • PRINCE2® Foundation / Practitioner

  • CISSP


  • Specific Knowledge

    Essential
  • Terraform experience

  • SDWan, firewalls & general networking experience

  • Familiarity with systems development lifecycle

  • Microsoft M365 and Client management tools, e.g. InTune

  • Expert knowledge of cloud computing, network management and IoT


  • Desirable

    Experience in agile product ownership and project management (PMP, ITIL, Scrum

    Microsoft Dynamics infrastructure
