Location: Council Offices, 169 Main Street, Rutherglen, G73 2HF

Hours: 35 hours per week

Work Pattern: Monday - Thursday 8:45am - 4:45pm and Friday 8:45am - 4:15pm

Salary: £37,702 - £38,779 annual salary

South Lanarkshire Council’s Employability Service delivers a range of employability programmes focused on supporting participants in South Lanarkshire including, young people in last 6 months of school, young people age 16-18 who have left school, young people and adults with learning disabilities and parents in priority groups.

The Vocational Development Worker will provide employability support to participants experiencing a range of barriers to employment. This includes assessing needs, building relationships including through home contact, supporting participants to develop and complete individual action plans, providing aftercare and working in partnership with employers, learning providers and key partners to support participants to develop the skills and experiences to progress to and sustain positive destinations.

Key Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Work with employability participants to support recruitment and induction, carry out assessments and develop individual learning plans designed to remove barriers, build employability skills and support progressions to sustained positive destinations.
  • Manage a caseload of employability participants, monitor and track progress and support ongoing development.
  • Develop flexible and responsive strategies to encourage engagement from participants including home visits and partnership working with key stakeholders.
  • Support the delivery of employability programmes by delivering and assisting with individual or group-based learning activities designed to develop participant’s confidence, health and wellbeing and work-readiness skills.
  • Work in collaboration with a range of agencies including Skills Development Scotland, DWP, other Council services, employers, placement providers, schools and training providers to ensure support and learning opportunities are coordinated and tailored to meet participant’s needs.
  • Work with employers, and participants to identify appropriate work placements, carry out health and safety assessments, develop placements action plans and provide monitoring and support 
  • Ensure support provided meets the compliance requirements of external funders and awarding bodies by gathering and maintaining appropriate records including programme registrations, records of progression and outcomes and individual training plans.
