Full Job Description

  • Acting in a supervisory role with oversight of overall media strategy for the Group/MSPs.

  • + Tracking media monitoring systems that detect news instantly as it breaks.
    + Managing provision of communications and press advice.
    + Leading the development and implementation of media and digital communication strategy.
    + Line management of Communications Officers, and liaison with regional communications teams.
    + Leading on the development of messaging and communications strategy, in line with the MSP group strategy.
  • Identifying potential media opportunities and acting as media contact.

  • + Organising and arranging interviews and events.
    + Identifying ways to build the profile of the Group and individual MSPs.
    + Developing creative new engagement methods for social media accounts.
    + Representing the Group in dealing with media and providing statements where appropriate.
    + Supporting campaign development and delivery.
  • Producing materials that effectively convey the Group's aims to the general public and media.

  • + Keeping up to date with current media developments.
    + Building and maintaining relationships with press, broadcast and other stakeholders.
    + Producing high quality press briefings, speeches, presentations and written materials.
  • Following all media outlets to capture relevant developments as they happen.

  • + Maintaining information systems to support communications.
    + Maintaining and growing social media presence.
    + Drafting and posting social media content to promote Group MSP activities.
    + Reviewing social media trends and briefing the Group/MSPs on issues of relevance.

  • Have significant experience working with or in the Scottish media.

  • Experience line managing a team in a communications environment.

  • Be creative in designing and communicating over a range of formats on different media platforms.

  • Have flexibility using relevant IT skills and writing styles, covering both traditional and newer forms of media.

  • Have detailed knowledge of Scottish Politics and the Parliament.

  • Have the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.

  • Have the ability to foster good working relationships with confidence to understand how the media world operates.
