Full Job Description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

A really interesting opportunity has arisen for either a newly qualified nurse or someone keen to join our team in West Lochaber with previous community experience. You will be predominantly based in Mallaig and Arisaig, but will also cover Strontian on the Ardnamurchan peninsula when required, travelling through some of the most amazing landscapes in the UK to visit patients in their own homes.

There will also be the opportunity to work across other community nursing teams in Lochaber. The post is for 37 hours per week which include weekends and on calls for palliative care as required.

Post registration experience is desirable. You should have a sound knowledge of clinical skills relevant to community nursing. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are fundamental to the role, as is the ability to work both on your own initiative and as part of a team.

There will be an on call commitment as the service requires for palliative care. A current driving licence is also essential for this post as you will be expected to drive efficiently and effectively across the remote and rural locality of Lochaber to meet the operational requirements of the service. Whilst access to a pool car is available the use of your own car for work purposes is an essential requirement of the post.

Angela MacLellan, District Nursing Caseload Holder Mallaig and Arisaig, telephone: or e-mail: angela.maclellan1@nhs.scot or Jo Young, Integrated Team Lead West and South Lochaber, telephone: or e-mail: jo.young13@nhs.scot

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
