This is an exciting role at the heart of Counter Fraud, Compliance and Debt Directorate (CFCD). The directorate aligns our strategic and operational functions, supporting DWP to deliver its objectives in identifying and correcting error, driving down fraud, using advanced analytics and insight to prevent fraud and error entering the system. The directorate is unique across DWP in that it has end to end ownership of all aspects of Fraud, Error and Debt, from policy and analysis, right the way through to investigation and court proceedings., These roles are based within the Operational Intelligence Service (OIS) part of the directorate and are a critical part at the start of many of our criminal investigations. The purpose of the Identity Fraud Team is to prevent, detect and correct a UK citizens identity. Document Examiners receive and create intelligence reports for both internal and external investigations. Successful candidates can expect to be involved in a range of the following:

  • Complete a full examination of documents at an advanced specialist level to determine if the document is genuine, counterfeit/forged or invalid. Including Passports, ID cards, Driving Licences, UK Visas/Residence Permits, and Birth/Marriage Certificates.
  • Prepare arrest packages on suspect documents for investigation and prepare cases for investigation where an original document is not present.
  • Verify Digital Uploaded Documents.
  • Provide Intelligence on suspect documents and suspects to investigators prior to investigation and issue Intelligence reports on suspect documents to other government departments including the Home Office, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) and Police Intelligence Services.
  • Identify and report trends in relation to suspects and suspect documents using all intelligence and resources available.
  • Liaise with Investigations, Law Enforcement Agencies, DWP front line services and other government departments.
  • Manage workloads to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Provide a high-quality customer service.
  • Work with other organisations on matters of national security
  • Due to the nature of this role, this role will require occasional travel and overnight stays., The DWP is committed to investing in people and ensuring their teams are a professional workforce. It is a requirement of counter fraud post holders within DWP to attain, and retain, membership of the Government Counter Fraud Profession (GCFP) at Practitioner level. This means if you are successful in applying for this role you will need to undertake an annual self-assessment to evidence your knowledge, skills, and experience within your role to attain and retain practitioner level membership. We provide post holders with a learning routeway to support them in achieving as well as any workplace adjustments they may require. Failure to attain membership of the GCFP at practitioner level may result in DWP seeking an alternative role for you.
