The need for strong, modern data and information governance will be critical to our success.

We’re looking for a Data and Information Governance Lead who is passionate about continuous improvement and who can take ownership to design, build and operate frameworks from the ground up, and influence at all levels of the organisation and across our diverse functions.

The role

As our Data and Information Governance Lead, here is some of what you will be doing:

  • Take end‑to‑end ownership of CalMac’s data and information governance strategy
  • Design and embed practical, scalable governance frameworks, standards and controls
  • Act as a trusted advisor in data and information governance, influencing senior leaders and stakeholders across the business
  • Champion best practice in data quality, data protection, records management and information lifecycle management
  • Translate legislation and regulatory requirements into workable, real‑world solutions
  • Work autonomously, prioritising activity and driving progress without the need for close supervision
  • Play a key role in supporting enterprise‑wide change and long‑term investment programmes

 About you

This is a role for someone who enjoys building and changing, not just maintaining and who brings clarity and momentum in complex environments and we’re seeking someone who:

  • Has strong expertise in data and information governance, with a pragmatic, business‑focused mindset
  • Demonstrates experience in leading and building teams within Data, Information Management and Governance.
  • A resilient, self‑starter with the confidence to lead and make decisions
  • Is visible and highly influential, with the ability to engage and challenge stakeholders constructively, taking them on the change journey with you
  • Enjoys designing and creating frameworks, processes and ways of working
  • Takes clear ownership and accountability for measurable outcomes
  • Is comfortable working autonomously while collaborating across diverse teams
  • Thrives in periods of change and sees transformation as an opportunity solving problems and driving success
  • Has resilience to deal with the challenges of driving change

Why join CalMac?

This is an exciting time of positive change for CalMac! As one of Scotland’s biggest employers and being awarded a 10‑year contract, we have long‑term stability and investment to continue to deliver essential services to Scotland’s island communities.

With an excellent salary package, the opportunity to join an iconic business that is modernising, evolving and investing in its future and where you can make a visible, lasting impact in a role with real autonomy and authority.
