Full Job Description

Are you a commercially minded leader with experience to turn robotics, automation or deep tech innovation into practical business growth and scale up

Can you bring together businesses, universities, investors and partners to accelerate technology adoption and support regional growth?

South of Scotland Enterprise is seeking a Deep Tech Accelerator Lead to provide strategic and operational leadership for the Borderlands Deep Tech Accelerator Hub in Hawick.

About Us

South of Scotland Enterprise (also known as SOSE) is the dedicated Economic and Community Development Agency for the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway. We were established by the Scottish Government and represent a fresh approach to driving growth across a very special region in a way that benefits all.

We are the first of Scotland’s public agencies to promote a wider view of the economy and how it impacts all we do. Jobs, businesses, communities and the environment are all equally important to us. We want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to fulfil their ambitions, no matter who or where they are.

What You’ll Do Day-to-Day

This is a rare opportunity to shape and grow a nationally significant deep tech accelerator hub from the South of Scotland. You will develop and lead the delivery of the Deep Tech Roadmap, establish a commercially sustainable accelerator model, and support businesses to adopt robotics, automation and other innovative technologies. Working closely with universities, investors, industry and national partners, you will help translate research and innovation into practical, scalable business opportunities that improve productivity and growth

The Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes You’ll Need to Have

We are looking for a confident, collaborative leader with strong, relationship management, influencing and commercial skills, alongside experience in robotics, automation, manufacturing or technology adoption. You will be comfortable working with SMEs and senior stakeholders, able to diagnose business challenges, design practical adoption pathways, and deliver programmes that deliver measurable impact. The Postholder will be hands-on, innovative, delivery focused and motivated by opportunity to strengthen the South of Scotland’s innovation ecosystem.

What We’ll Offer

We offer a competitive and varied reward package, designed to cover your wellbeing, your lifestyle, your working life and your future, including generous annual leave entitlement and pension contribution. Our salary ranges are designed to be competitive, and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range, except in exceptional circumstances.

At South of Scotland Enterprise, we celebrate and support differences. We are an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to offering equal employment opportunities regardless of race, colour, ancestral heritage, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, gender identity and expression, or veteran status. If you need any adjustments to support your application, such as information in alternative formats or special requirements to access our buildings, or if you’re eligible under The Disability Confident Scheme please contact us and we’ll do all we can to support you.

This role is based at the Deep Tech Accelerator Hub in Hawick, Scottish Borders, and the postholder will typically spend approximately 70% of their active working time based within the SOSE Innovation Space, enabling close collaboration with entrepreneurs, partners and colleagues across the innovation ecosystem.

You will also be required to travel regularly across Scotland, so access to a vehicle or other means of transport, for example access to work arrangements, is essential.

This role is full time and permanent, and we will consider alternative working patterns.

If you are an Inclusive, Responsible and Bold individual who is always Striving for success and believe you have something to offer the South of Scotland as a Deep Tech Accelerator Lead, then we would love to hear from you.
