The Role This role will the run the day to day digital coverage of major Scottish stories across the new ITV News App and social platforms. Working alongside our existing Scotland bureau, as well as the wider App + social team, our Deputy Content Editor will be the driving force of our digital content from Scotland, capturing the most important aspects of the daily agenda as well as maximising the best of our own newsgathering. This person required for this role will straddle the responsibilities between communicating with those teams to ensure we are optimising our own original and distinctive content for our digital outputs, as well as drawing on their own editorial instincts to cover the most important stories from Scotland to a wider audience. As well as our own Scotland bureau, the person in this role will communicate closely with the ITV News network digital Content Editors, as well as our partners at ITV Border, ensuring that our coverage of Scotland reflects the needs and interests of our existing audience, as well as expanding reach to new, mobile-first audiences. The right person for this role will be able to think and act independently on editorial decisions, as well as being able to work collaboratively as part of a wider team. They must also be able to demonstrate an instinctive knowledge of events, issues and trends in the country, and have the ability to translate the most relevant of those to the audience across digital platforms in an engaging and creative way, primarily through social-native storytelling. We want the person in this role to blend a sound news judgement with a hands-on ability to commission, create and curate content that adheres to the highest creative, editorial and compliance standards necessary within a fast-paced, deadline-drive environment.,
- Overseeing and managing the day-to-day digital content about Scotland for the ITV News App and social outputs.
- Working closely with the ITV News Scotland bureau to ensure we're covering the right stories in Scotland, as well as maximising and optimising the best of our exclusive and original content across our digital platforms.
- Maintaining close communication with the ITV News App + Social team, as well as newsdesk and other teams to ensure we're across the latest lines and best picture.
- Briefing relevant individuals in those teams about story types, format and ambition, creating, signing off and sub-editing content, as well as advising on any updates or changes as stories evolve.
- Ability to learn quickly to train up on the key CMS tools used for the App, as well as editing tools within Avid and Premiere.
- Knowing how to create and optimise content on those platforms, as well as being able to lead and advise others on the team or in the newsroom.
- Ability to stay calm and work efficiently in intense breaking news scenarios, creating breaking news stories.
- Working closely with planning teams as well as senior daily editorial staff to make key editorial judgements across all our output.
- Helping generate original stories and ideas that appeal to new and existing audiences across our key platforms.
- Supporting individual members of the team with their original content or creative story ideas, ensuring it has maximum impact across the app and associated platforms.
- Liaising closely with the wide ITV News operation, specifically ITV News Border, to ensure that the best of ITV News regional content is reflected in our output where appropriate.
- Championing content from the app across the wider ITV News operation.
- Ensuring all ITV News digital content upholds premium standards of news values, compliance, taste and decency.
- Ensure our digital content reflects the diversity of our audience.
- Ensuring there is close co-operation, understanding and creative cross-promotion of social content across all ITV platforms.
- Helping lead and plan ITV News content around major news events in Scotland.
- Attending planning meetings to ensure original and diaried digital content is well planned and executed.
- Helping deliver maximum impact for the best of ITV News journalism across our key platforms.
- Responsibility for leading on training on digital output internally where and when needed.
A key understanding of Scotland and the events, issues and trends that drive interest for wider audiences interested in Scottish news - A background of digital/multi-platform journalism
- Awareness of existing and emerging social platforms and trends
- A creative and dynamic journalist with superb organisational skills
- A cool and calm operator with a positive "can do" approach
- A good communicator with a strong ability to solve problems
- Excellent editorial judgement in line with the ITV News agenda
- A brilliant understanding of key issues that impact younger audiences and how to deliver content around them
- A superb grasp of storytelling in the digital sphere
- An ability to devise creative digital treatments around key stories and issues
- Ability to edit vertical video content to a decent standard, but to critique and commission it to a very high standard
- Ability to take major and complex mainstream news events and help deliver them to younger audiences
- A strong writer, with experience of writing across multiple platforms
- Experience of digital publishing, social posting
- A keen understanding of digital audiences and the metrics by which we can test their appetite and sentiments
- Scrupulous attention to detail when checking content for accuracy and style
- An eye for identifying the best use of picture and graphics
- An excellent knowledge and understanding of the importance of diverse contributors in digital coverage
- Great understanding of the ITN compliance manual
- Awareness of Health and Safety requirements
- Awareness and understanding of the financial implications of all decision making
