Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Service Delivery, you will oversee the ambitious programme to transform waste across Glasgow as well as other frontline operational areas and will have responsibility for a budget more than £160m across a range of functions. You will have a focus on contributing to the council’s target of achieving net-zero by 2030 and this will be embedded in your approach.
The postholder will have direct responsibility for the management and delivery of the statutory waste management functions for the authority together with directing and overseeing parks and major events across the City and working with external partners in the delivery of safe, clean and efficient services. You will also be responsible for the delivery of regulatory services including Environmental health, Trading Standards, Pest Control as well as Scientific Services and Community Safety. You will also have responsibility for the delivery of a fleet of more than 1500 vehicles and other transport related functions.

As part of the leadership team, you will be committed to working collaboratively with colleagues and partners on a range of issues. You will be a first-class communicator and a natural relationship manager whilst demonstrating excellent leadership skills. You will have an appreciation and understanding of working within a political environment. You will be educated to degree level and have extensive experience in an operational/technical environment at a senior management level.
A strategic approach and vision to deliver service improvements, financial planning, and people management skills together with substantial experience of developing and achieving organisational goals and targets is essential.
