Full Job Description
Based from Livingston Fairways, with travel to operational sites as required, you will support the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of DSEAR and hazardous-area projects across WGM's water and industrial portfolio.
Working closely with the DSEAR Project Manager, Senior DSEAR Engineer and wider delivery teams, you will coordinate site surveys, technical planning, procurement, resources, documentation and delivery activity from initial assessment through to completion and handover.
This is a practical project-engineering role where you will translate technical and operational requirements into clear scopes, safe systems of work and deliverable project plans. You will also support the resolution of technical and logistical issues, maintain accurate project controls and help ensure compliance with DSEAR, client requirements and relevant hazardous-area standards.
WGM is entering a significant period of growth, supported by secured long-term frameworks across the UK water sector and continued investment in our engineering and delivery capability. At WGM, we offer the close working relationships, practical mindset and visibility of a smaller business, with the scale, stability and long-term project pipeline of a growing UK engineering company. We invest in our people through technical training, professional development and internal progression, and we promote from within wherever we can.
What you'll be doing
Supporting the planning and delivery of DSEAR and hazardous-area projects across operational water and industrial sites.
Undertaking technical site surveys and translating findings into clear scopes of work, RAMS, delivery plans and resource requirements.
Coordinating labour, subcontractors, materials, plant, procurement and site access to support safe and efficient delivery.
Reviewing drawings, specifications, equipment information and hazardous-area documentation.
Monitoring programme, cost, risk, procurement and project progress, providing clear updates to the Project Manager and wider team.
Resolving technical and logistical issues in collaboration with clients, operations teams and specialist engineers.
Supporting installation, remediation, testing, commissioning, completion and handover activities.
Maintaining accurate project records, reports, trackers and technical documentation.
Providing day-to-day technical coordination to engineers, technicians and subcontractors, and deputising for the Senior DSEAR Engineer when required.
Working towards formal Approved Person appointment under the relevant Electrical Safety Rules and Isolation Safety Rules, subject to training, assessment and authorisation.
Practical experience working with DSEAR, hazardous-area or explosive-atmosphere projects.
A current or previous relevant CompEx qualification, or equivalent demonstrable hazardous-area competence.
Experience in a Project Engineer, Electrical Engineer, EICA Engineer or similar engineering-delivery role.
Experience working within an operational, regulated or process-led environment.
The ability to undertake technical site surveys and produce clear scopes of work, RAMS and delivery plans.
Strong knowledge of project coordination, including labour, materials, plant, procurement, subcontractors and programme requirements.
The ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and equipment information.
Strong written reporting, organisation and stakeholder-management skills.
A relevant engineering qualification at Degree, HND, Level 5 or equivalent level, or demonstrable equivalent industry experience.
A full UK driving licence.
BS 7671 18th Edition certification, knowledge of BS EN IEC 60079 standards, previous Approved Person experience and experience within water, utilities, chemicals, manufacturing, energy or another regulated process environment would be advantageous but not essential.
WGM will support appropriate role-related development, which may include further CompEx training, DSEAR and hazardous-area development, Approved Person training and client-specific safety-rule training.
Salary will be aligned to your skills, qualifications and experience. This role also received a substantial car allowance.
In addition, WGM offers:
32 days' holiday, increasing to 36 days based on length of service.
Employer pension contribution of 6%
Life assurance at three times your annual salary.
Salary-sacrifice schemes, including electric vehicles, annual-leave purchase and cycle to work.
Hybrid and flexible working where the role allows.
Enhanced maternity and paternity provision.
Company sick pay, subject to qualifying criteria.
Access to employee discounts and wider RSK Group benefits.
Technical training and professional-development opportunities.
Clear opportunities for progression as WGM continues to grow.
WGM Engineering is committed to creating an inclusive working environment where everyone is treated fairly and with respect. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and will provide reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process where required.
