Full Job Description

We are looking for an Economic Analyst to join our team at FarrPoint to help our clients identify gaps and opportunities for investing in digital technology and connectivity infrastructure. This will involve helping to understand the impact that 'Digital' can have on the economy, society and environment and developing clear business cases with innovative solutions to allow our clients to achieve their visions.

With exciting plans for growth, our economists work across the company to support a wide range of public and private sector clients investing in a variety of digital connectivity infrastructure and technology adoption projects and ensure that they deliver for people and places.

You will play a key role and be involved in all areas of economic analysis and research. The key workstreams for this role include:

  • Assessing Economic, Social and Environmental Impact Assessments - we ensure that understanding and maximising benefits is at the heart of project development. To do this we begin with helping our clients to understand the potential economic, social and environmental impact digital can bring.

  • Developing Digital Strategies - we help our clients understand the impact digital technology and connectivity infrastructure can have and enable them to present a strategic vision with a clear plan of action to turn that ambition into reality.

  • Creating Business Cases - we develop robust evidence-based business cases, based around HM Treasury's 5 Case Green Book Process where necessary, appraising options to ensure clients find a solution that delivers value for money and helps them achieve their objectives.

  • Realise Benefits - through our agile approach to analysis, we assist clients in the Benefits Realisation process, from ongoing project monitoring, to end of programme evaluations. This helps clients understand the economic, social, and environmental benefits of digital connectivity and technology.

  • You will work collaboratively alongside others across FarrPoint to help build client relationships and provide them with market leading advice.

  • At least 2 years' experience as a professional economist, as well as a bachelor's degree and / or MSc in Economics, with a good strong understanding of economic concepts and analytical techniques.

  • Understanding and experience in applying economics to policymaking, appraise options and evaluate impact.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills and an ability to adapt your style to meet the needs of your audience.

  • Strong experience research and business analysis skills, interpreting quantitative and qualitative information and data, and embracing agile methodologies and emerging trends.

  • Confidence in making effective decisions, and an ability to work with independence, good organisation and accountability in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Although existing technology knowledge is not a prerequisite, you should have an interest in technology and a desire to learn more about how it can benefit organisations, communities, and individuals.

FarrPoint is an independent technology consultancy specialising in digital connectivity. We understand the importance of connectivity as the underlying mechanism for driving economic and social benefits and we have deep personal convictions about the importance and impact of our connectivity work. We are a team of around 20 that comprises a mix of technologists, data analysts, economists and communications specialists.

  • Our head office is located in central Edinburgh, but we also have operations and staff in various parts of the UK, including Manchester, Newcastle and London. We also have recently opened subsidiaries in Nova Scotia, Canada and Boston, United States.

Our clients vary from local authorities to central government bodies in the UK and overseas. Some of the projects we worked on include: the UK Government DSIT's Project Gigabit, UK Lottery network migration, Tokyo and Rio Olympics and many more.

Flexible approach to working: flexible hours, unlimited leave policy, hybrid-working
