Energy Operations Industrial Placement - Dunbar, UK About the Role

Ready to explore your passion for chemistry and make a real impact on the future of energy? At EDF, success is personal. Here, youll learn from experts, develop key skills, and launch your unique career within a business thats helping Britain achieve net zero.

"Electricity is such a vital component in everyones lives. It powers schools, businesses and hospitals, so I knew that if I did my placement within EDF then I would have a really large impact on society, and that made my placement a lot more fulfilling. Priyanka, Science and Engineering Industrial Placement.

The Opportunity

This 12-month placement offers a starting salary of 26,050 and the chance to work at our #Torness Power Station in Scotland.

You'll take on a real job at a junior level, gaining hands-on experience while being supported by experienced colleagues and mentors. You'll contribute to meaningful projects that support the energy industry, from improving safety and radiation protection to condition monitoring across operational sites.

This placement is a springboard into a rewarding career, offering the chance to apply your academic knowledge to real-world challenges and build your professional network.

What You'll Experience

During your Energy Operations Industrial Placement, you'll gain practical experience in a professional environment. Past students have supported safety improvements through communications campaigns and training, explored radiation protection in new power stations, and helped maintain condition monitoring programmes across operational sites.

Youll be immersed in hands-on learning, applying your academic training to genuine industry problems while completing modules that contribute towards your degree. This is a chance to grow your skills and confidence in a supportive and inclusive workplace.

Your Work Location

You'll be based at our #Torness Power Station in Scotland (EH42), where you'll work alongside experienced teams and gain exposure to the operational side of nuclear energy. This location offers a unique opportunity to connect with colleagues and contribute to a key part of our business.

Who You Are

To be eligible for this EDF industrial placement, you need to be on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a 2:2 undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any Science or Engineering Discipline.

It is a requirement that those who join us have the right to work in the UK. Whilst sponsorship may be a possibility, we reserve the right in our decisions to give priority to those who already have the right to work in the UK.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a starting salary of at least 26,050 per annum and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that's unique to you. Here, success is personal — it's your journey, powered by us.

Everyone is welcome at EDF; we're committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility, and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with disabilities.

As a Disability Confident employer, we are committed to creating an accessible recruitment process and encourage candidates to tell us about any support they may need. Should you disclose a disability and meet the minimum criteria (which will include holding a relevant degree discipline/grade and achieving the required pass mark for Stage 1 Testing) for the role, you'll be progressed to the first stage of the selection process. Some of our roles at EDF attract large volumes of applications. When this happens, we'll apply the Disability Confident schemes guidance on taking practical and appropriate steps to select disabled candidates who best meet the minimum criteria for the job.

Our Recruitment Process

We'll guide you through every stage and keep you updated along the way. You'll be supported by real people, with opportunities to ask questions, learn more, and receive feedback where possible.

For our Early Careers Programmes, we use a combination of automated decision-making, assessment technology, and human review.
