Purpose of the role

The Facilities Manager supports the Head of Facilities in managing the day-to-day operational delivery of maintenance, environmental management, and contractor oversight across all venues.

Direct line management of in-house technical maintenance team, carry out various repairs and planned preventative maintenance across all venues and technical disciplines (HVAC, BMS, Plumbing, Electrical, Joinery, Compliance).

This role ensures buildings are maintained to the highest standards, safety compliance is upheld, and teams are coordinated efficiently to provide an exceptional experience for staff, visiting companies, and customers. It is a proactive, hands-on role with both operational and supervisory responsibilities.


Main duties and responsibilities

Maintenance & Technical Services

  • Support and participate in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) regime.
  • Work with the maintenance team to deliver day-to-day repairs, inspections, and technical checks, getting hands on when required.
  • Ensure statutory compliance, maintaining accurate building logs, inspection records, and contractor documentation.
  • Assist with managing specialist contractors (e.g., HVAC, electrical, life safety systems).
  • Identify maintenance issues proactively and prioritise works alongside the maintenance team.
  • Support capital improvement projects through coordination, scheduling, and ensuring contractors adhere to RAMS and H&S requirements.
  • Allocate and oversee workloads and operational priorities.
  • Encourage teamwork and professional development.

Processes, Controls & Compliance

  • Assist with enforcing all relevant Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Licensing and financial control procedures.
  • Support venue inductions for contractors and visiting staff.
  • Ensure accurate logging of faults, maintenance and compliance data.

People Leadership

  • Motivate, support and guide the maintenance team.
  • Contribute to training, development planning, and regular performance conversations.
  • Promote teamwork, initiative, accountability, and a customer focused mindset.

Minimising Environmental Impact

  • Support delivery of sustainability plans aligned with the Theatre Green Book and CT’s net zero ambitions.
  • Monitor energy usage, waste reduction and environmental performance data relative to the buildings and services.
  • Identify opportunities for reducing environmental impact through improved building operation.
  • Make suggestions for capital improvements or changes in how we operate to reduce our environmental impact

Capital Projects & Operational Planning

  • Assist in planning and implementing works within the capital expenditure plan.
  • Ensure project activities are well coordinated with operational schedules.
  • Support budget monitoring, supplier reviews and cost effectiveness evaluations.

Health and Safety

  • Assist Head of Facilities in their role as Health and Safety Officer; including audits, walk rounds, investigations, monitoring H&S and updating risk assessments
  • Deputise where require for the Head of Facilities health and safety role

Stage Door and Cleaning Services

  • Support and Deputise for Head of Facilities.

Key Results Areas

  • Providing a clean, comfortable, warm and safe environment for customers, staff and visitors
  • Champion a responsive service to customers, visiting companies and colleagues
  • Carry out a planned preventative maintenance and repairs across all sites
  • Manage & direct the in-house maintenance team
  • Management of contractors onsite
  • Supporting a responsive, solution focused service culture
  • Deputising for the Head of Facilities when required, including health & safety duties
  • Coordinating resources, staff and contractors to meet operational priorities.
  • Implementing accurate and consistent processes and controls
  • Assist with capital improvement projects
  • Contributing to environmental performance improvements, including energy, waste, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Ensuring all buildings and associated plant & equipment are kept in a safe, compliant, and fully operational condition.
