Full Job Description
We are now looking for a Field Service & Commissioning Engineer based out of Aberdeen to support a growing service operation. This role is not purely commissioning-based and will suit someone who enjoys variety, responsibility, and working across service, maintenance, upgrades, life extension, and commissioning activities. Based in Aberdeen, you will deliver a full range of field and workshop-based engineering services, supporting customers across the UK, overseas, offshore, and marine sectors. Your primary responsibility is the safe execution of service-related projects, ensuring the delivery of an exceptional customer experience. The role includes:
- Workshop-based preparation, testing, and refurbishment work
- On-site service, maintenance, and upgrades
- Offshore and marine mobilisations where required
- Commissioning of installed switchgear as part of wider service activities No two weeks look the same. This is a hands-on, technically engaging role in a fast-paced environment where mindset matters as much as skillset. You will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Delivering service, maintenance, upgrade, life extension, and commissioning activities on switchgear and ancillary equipment
- Responding to technical enquiries from existing customers and providing practical, professional support
- Undertaking pre-mobilisation activities including risk assessments, method statements, and technical planning
- Promoting and actively contributing to a strong Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality culture on-site and within the business
- Fault finding, breakdown investigation, and repair of switchgear systems
- Protection relay testing, upgrades, and associated reporting
- Workshop-based service, inspection, and preparation activities
- Leading safely on-site when working with subcontractors or client teams
- Completing technical reports, service documentation, and expense submissions accurately and on time
- Participating in out-of-hours call-out activities when required The employer reserves the right to vary duties in line with operational requirements.
- Strong practical problem-solving ability
- Calm and effective decision-making under pressure
- Commitment to outstanding customer service
- Ability to manage a varied and changing workload
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Systematic, safety-focused approach to engineering tasks
- Team-oriented, with confidence to work independently Essential / Strongly Preferred:
- Time-served electrical apprenticeship or equivalent experience
- ONC or higher in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Solid understanding of electrical switchgear, maintenance, and fault finding
- Experience in offshore and/or marine environments
- Comfortable producing clear technical reports
- IT literate, including Microsoft Office
- CCNSG Safety Passport
- Offshore certification such as BOSIET, MIST, and Offshore Medical (or willingness to obtain)
You will regularly interface with customers, project teams, and internal departments. A professional manner, clear communication, and a genuine commitment to customer care are essential. You will represent the organisation across the UK and internationally, often in high-risk or business-critical environments.
