Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join COPFS’ Management Accounting and Planning team as a Finance Business Partner. This team sits within the wider Finance and Procurement unit, providing support and guidance to ensure the organisation is compliant in all financial matters and that we ensure robust financial management and value for money of budgets allocated by the Scottish Government.
In this role, you will work alongside a variety of stakeholders across the organisation, providing clear and concise financial insights and advice. You will provide challenge and influence to support robust decision making and ensure sound financial management is maintained across the organisation. You will work closely with the two other Finance Business Partners in the team as you each provide support to an allocated area of the organisation.
You will report to the Senior Finance Business Partner and will also support the Head of Management Accounting and Planning., + Act as a point of contact and provide key financial advice and guidance to the organisation.
+ Perform both detailed and strategic financial analysis that will inform business decisions and ensure robust financial management and value for money.
+ Analyse financial data and support non-financial colleagues in their understanding.
+ Maintain close coordination between all divisions of the Finance and Procurement team to facilitate close engagement with Business Managers across the various functions of the organisation.
Role Specific Responsibilities
+ Develop and maintain relationships with Managers across various business areas to provide professional financial advice and guidance.
+ Support the annual budget setting, management and reporting cycle as well as strategic financial planning.
+ Assist with the production of monthly management accounts and finance reports.
+ Analyse monthly financial data, conduct performance analysis and challenge forecasts to meet reporting deadlines.
+ Identify risks and pressures within forecasts, explain them to business managers and work with them to reconcile to meet budget allocation.
+ Aid in the production of COPFS’ Annual Accounts and supporting audit papers.
+ Work to maintain our finance system and assist with the reconciliation of payroll and suspense accounts.

This role will be suited to candidates who are able to demonstrate strong management accounting experience. You should be an excellent communicator with skills to tailor your communication style to your audience, interpreting complex financial information and making it accessible to all key stakeholders. You should be familiar with accounting and finance software and be able to make improvement recommendations to processes. You should be confident taking the lead with your work, but also be able to collaborate with others, building strong stakeholder networks and maintain positive relationships., + Professional membership of a recognised accountancy body (CCAB or CIMA).
+ Excellent communication skills with the ability to challenge and influence others at a senior level.
+ Strong management accounting expertise, including proficiency in financial modelling, budget monitoring and business planning.
+ Working knowledge of accounting and finance tools, as well as proficient use of Microsoft Office and Excel.
Effective data analysis skills to provide clear and concise financial analysis and results through the production of monthly finance reports., Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check.
