Gardening Apprentice

Job purpose: Edinburgh Gardening Services Ltd is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Gardening Apprentice to join our growing professional team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors and wants to build a long-term career in the horticulture industry. You will gain practical, hands-on experience working across a wide range of residential gardens in and around Edinburgh, while working towards a recognised qualification.

You will learn all aspects of professional garden maintenance, including lawn care and mowing, hedge cutting, planting, pruning, garden clearances, garden makeovers and the safe use and maintenance of professional equipment.

You’ll work alongside an experienced team and receive on-the-job training and support as you develop your skills and confidence. As you progress, there will be opportunities to take on greater responsibility and develop into a skilled member of the EGS team.

We are looking for someone who is reliable, hardworking, keen to learn and takes pride in doing a great job for our customers.

No previous gardening experience is required, just the right attitude and willingness to learn.

What will I learn? During your apprenticeship with Edinburgh Gardening Services, you will develop a wide range of practical skills and knowledge in professional garden maintenance and horticulture, including:

* Professional lawn mowing and lawn care

* Hedge trimming and reductions

* Pruning and caring for trees, shrubs and plants

* Weeding, planting and general border maintenance

* Garden clearances and garden makeovers

* Safe and professional use of gardening machinery and tools

* Using professional battery-powered & petrol equipment

* Identifying common plants, weeds and garden problems

* Seasonal garden maintenance and understanding how gardens change throughout the year

* Green waste handling and responsible disposal

* Working safely and efficiently as part of a professional gardening team

* Providing a high standard of customer service and taking pride in your work

* Planning and completing jobs to a professional standard

* Maintaining clean, tidy and safe working areas

As your skills and confidence develop, you will be given more responsibility and opportunities to work independently while being supported by experienced members of the EGS team.

What qualifications or qualities are required? No previous gardening experience is required as full training will be provided. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, reliable and keen to learn.
