Hays are delighted to be supporting a respected Housing Association in the recruitment of a Governance Officer. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced governance, compliance or business support professional to join a values-driven organisation committed to delivering high-quality services across Scotland. Working within a collaborative team, you will play a key role in supporting strong governance practices, regulatory compliance and organisational assurance. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders and Board Members while contributing to the ongoing development of governance frameworks and processes
Your new role
As Governance Officer, you will support the organisation's governance and assurance activities, helping to ensure effective decision-making, regulatory compliance and robust corporate governance arrangements. You will be responsible for coordinating Board and Committee meetings, maintaining governance documentation and supporting key compliance activities. You will also play an important role in managing information governance processes, including Freedom of Information and Subject Access Requests.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the delivery of effective governance and assurance frameworks.
- Coordinating Board and Committee meetings, including agendas, papers, minutes and follow-up actions.
- Maintaining governance policies, procedures and statutory records.
- Preparing reports, briefing notes and governance documentation for senior stakeholders.
- Supporting regulatory compliance activities, audits and governance reviews.
- Managing Freedom of Information and Subject Access Requests in line with legislative requirements.
- Assisting with data protection and information governance activities across the organisation.
- Monitoring governance and information risks and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Building effective relationships with colleagues, senior leadership teams and Board Members.
- Providing advice and guidance on governance-related matters across the business
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you'll bring experience from a governance, compliance, executive support, company secretarial or information governance background.You will demonstrate:
- Previous experience supporting Boards, Committees or senior leadership teams.
- Knowledge of governance frameworks, regulatory requirements and compliance processes.
- Understanding of Freedom of Information and Data Protection legislation.
- Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong report-writing, minute-taking and administrative skills.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word and Excel.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive approach and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
