Full Job Description

To support our advocacy and engagement with stakeholders on key areas connected to existing Offshore Energies UK and member energy operations we are looking for a public affairs professional to join our external affairs team as a Government Relations Adviser. Reporting to the Head of External Affairs you will assist in driving support and engagement with governments and parliament, civil society stakeholders across the UK and devolved nations with a particular focus on Westminster, Whitehall, and Holyrood in a dynamic team.,

  • Assist in the effective delivery of external affairs strategies and campaigns that meet OEUK's business priorities and further assist the associations objectives.

  • Employ appropriate tactics for effective, regular engagement, both written and oral, to raise awareness of OEUK's policy positions and strengthen its reputation with key policy makers, decision-makers, and other external stakeholders.

  • Create high quality, accurate content for briefing materials, consultation responses, policy position papers, and other written or oral communications to support the delivery of OEUK policy positions.

  • Ensure stakeholder management, engagement, and communications processes are comprehensively recorded, reviewed, reported, and continuously improved.

  • Monitor the political environment in Scottish, UK, and other relevant parliaments, identifying and evaluating opportunities and risk, to provide timely intelligence to relevant internal staff and coordinate informed responses.

  • Coordinate formal consultations and responses to stakeholder inquiries, policy launches, reports, and other relevant issues of a political nature.

  • Analysis of energy and fiscal based policy and legislation relating to the offshore energy sector.

  • Travel across the UK for meetings with key stakeholders.

  • Champion quality and demonstrate leadership through personal high standards of quality and service.

  • Key account management

    A degree in politics, communications, journalism, law, public relations, social policy, or equivalent experience in these areas

  • Experience working for an MP, MSP, MEP, peer, or a member of another political institution is advantageous.

  • Experience working for UK government departments, think tanks, or political organisations is advantageous.

  • Experience of parliamentary procedure is advantageous., Experience of successful advocacy

  • Sound knowledge of the workings of government and parliamentary procedure, and good political nous

  • An understanding of the external political environment and political developments

  • Experience of working in partnership with peers and stakeholders at all levels to facilitate effective decision-making and issues management to mutual success.

  • Sound analytical and fact-finding skills, ability to identify and understand key issues.

  • Ability to present complex information in a way that is straight forward to understand, whether in writing.

  • Experience of writing high quality copy and content to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to prioritise and work under pressure, meeting deadlines with tight schedules.

  • Collaborator with a positive attitude and flexible approach

  • Excellent diligence with solid proofing skills, A good knowledge or awareness of energy issues in general and the offshore energy sector in particular

  • A commitment to stakeholder focusses and relationship management

  • Results-driven, equally comfortable and experienced at working strategically or operationally to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.

  • The role will require you to gather, assimilate and analyse information and views from stakeholders and specialists, with a view to formulating well evidenced recommendations.

  • Ability to work as part of a team but also independently and proactively.

  • Demonstrates high personal standards of ethical behaviour and professionalism, aligned to company values.

  • A creative mind partnered with the ability to find practical solutions., Do you have a degree in politics, communications, journalism, law, public relations, social policy, or equivalent experience in these areas ?
