The Opportunity

A leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor is seeking a Head of Health & Safety to drive and lead HSEQ strategy across a diverse portfolio of major projects.

This is a pivotal leadership role offering the opportunity to shape safety culture at a business-critical level, working closely with senior leadership and operational teams to deliver best-in-class health, safety and wellbeing performance.

You’ll play a key role in influencing behaviour, embedding a proactive safety culture, and ensuring the highest standards are consistently achieved across all operations.

The Role

As Head of Health & Safety, you will:

• Lead the development and implementation of the company-wide HSEQ strategy
• Provide expert guidance to senior leadership and project teams
• Drive a positive, proactive safety culture across all sites
• Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation and industry standards
• Oversee audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Lead incident investigations and ensure effective corrective actions
• Manage and develop the H&S team across multiple projects
• Engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies
• Monitor performance metrics and report at board level

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience in a senior H&S leadership role within civil engineering or infrastructure
• Strong working knowledge of major project environments (e.g. highways, rail, energy, utilities)
• Demonstrable experience driving cultural change and behavioural safety
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
• NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) essential
• Chartered membership of IOSH (or working towards) preferred
