We have 3 vacancies for Headteachers within the Scottish Borders. For further information on the specific schools, our Council and our Education Service please see additional attachments.

Role Purpose

To lead and manage the continued successful development of the school. To ensure the safety of all pupils. To conduct the affairs of the schools to the benefit of the pupils and the community it serves through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by the education authority under the overall direction of the Service Director of Children and Young People.

Essential

A degree (or equivalent) or diploma in primary education (or PGCE/PGDE) along with strong evidence of continued personal professional development

Full registration with the General Teaching Council (of Scotland)

Evidence of personal commitment to management and leadership development.

A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is an essential requirement of this post. * If you have a disability which precludes you from holding a drivers licence, Scottish Borders Council will take into account its responsibility to make reasonable adjustments to allow for your disability. Should it be possible to make such an adjustment in order that you can undertake the travel responsibilities of the post, this will be taken into account in consideration for this role.

As of 1st August 2020 all successful candidates appointed to a permanent Headteacher role in Scotland are required to hold the Standard for Headship, through completion of the Scottish Qualification for Headship (SQH), Flexible Route to Headship (FRH) or Into Headship. For those appointed, who do not yet hold the Standard for Headship, you will be required to complete the Into Headship qualification within 30 months of appointment. Please note: that those candidates who already or have previously held a permanent Headteacher position are not required to complete the Into Headship programme and will not need to complete it within 30 months of appointment.
