Full Job Description

That's why we need people like you who care about your colleagues and customers as well as our business and the environment. People who appreciate their role in helping others to be successful.

Are you passionate about creating a safe and secure working environment? We are seeking a dedicated qualified Health and Safety Advisor to join our Scottish Water contract team, specifically covering our work within major projects and developer services.

As a key player in the water and wastewater industry, you will have the opportunity to shape and enhance our health and safety culture.

The Role

We need your help to inspire and help our busy operational colleagues execute their work consistently, using "best in class" health and safety practices. We'll leave you to decide how best to do this, although we know that you won't be standing on the side-lines holding a clipboard and grimacing.

We'll support and encourage your naturally inquisitive nature as you seek to understand the operational challenges your colleagues face on site. We'll be looking for practical H&S solutions and helpful advice delivered in a style that motivates your audience. We'll encourage you to create communications strategies which resonate and inspire from in-person conversation to video and podcasts.

Here are just some of the activities you'll be getting involved with:

  • Carrying out ABC tours (Attitude, Behaviours and Culture)

  • Execute comprehensive inspections for safety compliance and hazard identification.

  • Advise on and set safety objectives aligned with project goals.

  • Support thorough investigations and ensure compliance with corrective actions.

  • Assess external environments, identify gaps, and recommend improvements.

  • Develop and implement safety initiatives; share best practices with colleagues.

  • Advise on and communicate new practices to ensure legislative compliance.

  • Actively encourage Safety Observations and Hazard Reporting.

Applicants should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective interaction with stakeholders. Analytical and problem-solving abilities are crucial for assessing and mitigating risks. The role also requires effective collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure a unified approach to health and safety throughout the organisation.

  • NEBOSH General Certification or equivalent i.e., HNC in Construction as a minimum and a Tech IOSH Membership. Prior experience in a health and safety role, preferably in the water or utilities sector, is highly advantageous. A solid grasp of health and safety legislation and regulations is also essential.

This is a field based regional role so a full UK driving licence is necessary.

Every day we work smarter, greener and use our imaginations.

Our purpose at Clancy is simple - we make life better for everyone's growing families. We play a vital role in providing fresh drinking water and power to millions of homes and businesses and so much more.

We are one of the biggest family owned construction businesses in the UK and we care about our people, our clients and the environment.

    What Next

You apply, and we respond within two weeks (we know how annoying it is not to hear anything back)! If you don't receive feedback within that timescale, please don't be afraid to chase us - one of our values is to do what we say we will do!

In addition to helping you reach your career goals, a competitive salary, pension, healthcare and holiday allowance starting at 24-26 days per annum, we also offer perks including Clancy Xtras, our employee benefits programme with discounts for numerous well-known retailers such as Tesco, Sainsbury's, Currys PC World and Vue Cinemas, cycle to work scheme as well as an Employee Assistance Programme.

Clancy is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all our employees. If you require any reasonable adjustments to be made for you to attend an interview, please do let us know and we will be happy to accommodate.
