Health & Safety (SHEQ) Advisor
Edinburgh, Scotland (Site-Based)

The Opportunity
Our client, a well-established and highly respected civil engineering contractor, is seeking an experienced Health & Safety (SHEQ) Advisor to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and civil engineering projects across Scotland.
This is a key role within the business, supporting operational teams to ensure the highest standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality compliance are consistently achieved on site.
The Role
Working closely with the SHEQ Manager, Contracts Managers, and site teams, you will take a hands-on approach to promoting a strong safety culture across multiple live projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting regular site inspections and audits, producing detailed reports
- Challenging and stopping unsafe practices, ensuring corrective actions are implemented
- Supporting the development and ongoing improvement of SHEQ systems and procedures
- Assisting in the preparation and review of method statements and risk assessments
- Delivering toolbox talks and engaging with site teams to promote best practice
- Investigating incidents and supporting preventative measures
- Liaising with regulatory bodies and keeping up to date with current legislation and guidance
- Supporting SHEQ audits, reviews, and compliance processes
- Encouraging open communication and continuous improvement across all levels
About You
We’re looking for a motivated and confident SHEQ professional who can operate both independently and as part of a wider team:
- NEBOSH Diploma (essential)
- IOSH membership (Grad / CMIOSH preferred)
- Proven experience in a SHEQ role within civil engineering, infrastructure, or earthworks
- Strong working knowledge of UK health & safety legislation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage a varied, site-based workload
- Full UK driving licence
