Enable Glasgow Branch

Full Job Description

Operated by Enable Glasgow, Fortune Works is one of Scotland’s largest social enterprises, providing meaningful opportunities for adults with learning disabilities across Glasgow and surrounding areas. Our service combines accessible social and enterprising activities with individualised support that enables people to make a positive contribution to their community.

We are currently looking for a full‑time Horticultural Support Worker to join our Growing Together Project.

Role Overview

The Horticultural Support Worker will help create, facilitate and maintain positive, person‑centred horticultural activities across multiple sites including our Garden Centre, Allotments, Gardening Unit and community spaces. You’ll support adults with learning disabilities to develop skills, confidence and inclusion through practical gardening, enterprise work and community engagement.

The successful candidate will provide high‑quality support, encourage participation in group activities, and help people gain skills through structured horticultural tasks. You should have experience supporting individuals, working with the public, and ideally some knowledge of small plant/equipment operation. Most importantly, you should bring a positive, empowering approach to supporting people with learning disabilities.

Key Duties

  • Deliver practical gardening activities across all sites
  • Provide person‑centred support using trauma‑informed practice and PBS
  • Support communication using adapted and accessible methods
  • Maintain gardens, tools, equipment and structured logs
  • Record learning digitally (StoriiCare, Skills Academy)
  • Support public‑facing events, demonstrations and community partnerships
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment and supervision
  • Follow health & safety procedures including lone working, PPE and manual handling.

Benefits

  • 33 days leave (including public holidays), rising to 38 days after five years
  • Enhanced pension scheme
  • Free life cover
  • Free access to counselling and wellbeing services
  • Support for training and professional development
  • Consistent working pattern: Monday–Friday, 9am–4pm

Please note this post is a 30 month fixed term contract (Glasgow Communities Fund)

Successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme. ENABLE Glasgow applies equal opportunities and diversity principles throughout its work.

Fortune Works is part of ENABLE Glasgow, a Charity registered in Scotland No. SC021077. Company Limited by Guarantee No. 250688.
