Shape the Future of Digital Services at Caledonian MacBrayne
Technology has the power to transform how businesses operate, how colleagues work, and how customers experience essential services. We're looking for a strategic and commercially minded IT Product Owner (Business Portfolio Transition) to help drive that transformation across some of our most critical business functions.
This is a unique opportunity to influence the digital future of one of Scotland's most recognisable and essential transport organisations. Working at the intersection of business and technology, you'll lead the sourcing, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of digital products and platforms that support key functions including Finance, Fleet Asset Management, Supply Chain, HR, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM).
As the voice of the business, you'll work closely with stakeholders, delivery teams, and technology partners to ensure that every product investment delivers measurable value, improves efficiency, and supports our wider strategic ambitions.
If you're passionate about using technology to solve complex business challenges, improve user experiences, and drive meaningful organisational change, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
As our IT Product Owner, you will:
- Own and shape the product vision, roadmap, and backlog for a portfolio of business-critical technology solutions.
- Work closely with business leaders and stakeholders to understand challenges, priorities, and opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with Supply Chain colleagues and external providers to identify and source innovative technology solutions.
- Translate business needs into clear product outcomes, epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Prioritise product backlogs based on customer outcomes, business value, risk, cost, and delivery dependencies.
- Act as the primary link between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams.
- Lead product discovery activities, workshops, and stakeholder engagement sessions.
- Champion digital innovation and identify opportunities to modernise systems, processes, and ways of working.
- Collaborate with developers, analysts, designers, testers, and delivery partners to ensure successful implementation.
- Monitor product performance through meaningful KPIs and use data and insight to drive continual improvement.
- Support organisational change, communication, training, and user adoption activities.
- Ensure solutions align with cybersecurity, data protection, resilience, and regulatory requirements.
What you'll bring
We're looking for someone who can combine strategic thinking with practical delivery expertise.
You'll bring:
- Degree-level qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable proven experience successfully owning and delivering digital products within complex operational environments.
- Experience working across the full product lifecycle, from discovery and business case development through to implementation, optimisation, and live service support.
- Strong knowledge of Agile delivery frameworks such as Scrum and SAFe, working within cross-functional product teams.
- Proven ability to manage and prioritise product backlogs, write user stories and acceptance criteria, and make informed trade-off decisions.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence decisions, and balance competing priorities.
- Experience translating complex business requirements into user-focused digital solutions.
- Strong analytical skills and confidence using data and insights to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of enterprise SaaS platforms and integrations, including solutions such as SAP, Dynamics, or similar technologies.
- Understanding of APIs, enterprise systems integration, and business data flows.
- Experience supporting business change and digital transformation initiatives.
- Appreciation of cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, data governance, and resilience in critical operational services.
It would be great if you also have:
- Agile/Product certifications such as CSPO or SAFe PO/PM.
- Experience working with Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
- Experience within transport, travel, mobility, infrastructure, or other operationally critical industries.
Why join us?
This is more than a technology role. It's an opportunity to influence how a vital public service organisation delivers for its customers and colleagues.
You'll be joining a team that is investing in innovation, modernisation, and digital transformation, where your expertise will directly shape products and services that make a real difference across the business.
If you're excited by the challenge of delivering technology solutions that create lasting value and operational excellence, we'd love to hear from you.
