IT Support Apprentice

Job purpose: This will be an apprentice-level appointment under the Modern Apprenticeship scheme, and you will be enrolled onto the IT Support learning plan.

As well as getting on-the-job training, you will also receive dedicated training on Microsoft systems & applications, networks, and general IT problem-solving skills.

Your role will initially involve a high degree of building new computers and laptops, setting up new users, and assisting the help desk team with answering calls and live chats, speaking with end-users to establish their issues, recording details into our help desk systems, and developing your skills to troubleshooting 1st Line type problems.

This role would ideally suit a recent school leaver looking to take their first step on a career path in the IT industry within a professional office.

You will need to be hard-working, have strong attention to detail, meet deadlines, be well organized, and have a real interest in technology, with a solid basic knowledge of IT terminology and devices.

This is a 12-month placement that could lead to a full-time position for the right candidate upon completion of their apprenticeship, but full-time employment is not guaranteed.

This will be an office-based role, based at their Edinburgh City Centre office, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

What will I learn? You will learn customer service skills as well as training in IT Support skills, such as basic troubleshooting, basic network setup and testing, building hardware and installing software.

You will also receive training on Microsoft certified courses with industry recognised qualifications.

What qualifications or qualities are required? You need to be enthusiastic, hard working and have a genuine interest in IT and technology.

You need to be able to pay close attention to detail and perform tasks accurately and complete checklists.

You need to be able to speak to clients on the phone in a confident and helpful manner.
