Full Job Description
Enva Scotland is hiring an IVC System Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the GICOM in-vessel composting system in compliance with environmental, waste, and health & safety regulations. The role ensures organic wastes are processed safely and efficiently, in line with environmental permits and quality standards, producing a compliant, high-quality compost product. Operational Duties
- Operate the GICOM in-vessel composting system according to manufacturer procedures and permit requirements
- Load and manage organic waste feedstocks, ensuring correct segregation and compliance with permitted waste types
- Monitor process parameters (temperature, moisture, airflow, oxygen) to achieve efficient aerobic composting cycles
- Comply with the Animal By-Products Regulations (ABPR) when processing material containing animal by-products, including maintaining clean/dirty area segregation and meeting required temperature/time standards to achieve sanitisation
- Maintain impermeable surfaces, sealed drainage, and bunding as specified by permit rules (e.g., sealed containment, appropriate drainage)
- Support compliance with any bioaerosol risk controls required by the permit - including site layout, monitoring, and mitigation measures to protect workers and neighbours
- Support quality assurance to meet industry standards such as BSI PAS 100 (Publicly Available Specification for compost) where applicable, to enable the compost product to qualify as a "product" not waste (optional but beneficial)
- Perform routine checks and basic maintenance of composting equipment, monitoring systems, and containment infrastructure
- Comply with UK health & safety legislation, including COSHH requirements for managing bioaerosols and other site hazards
Experience with industrial plant operations or biological waste processes - Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical procedures
- Competent record-keeping for regulatory compliance
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a regulatory-controlled environment
