ITV News is looking for a Correspondent based in Scotland to drive superlative coverage of the stories and issues that matter most to audiences across Scotland and the UK. We are looking for a talented journalist with a proven track record of breaking original and exclusive stories, developing high-impact investigations and bringing authority, insight and imagination to their reporting. You will be expected to stay ahead of the news agenda, build strong and trusted contacts, and consistently find distinctive ways to tell important stories. You will be a confident and authoritative presence on screen, able to provide live commentary and analysis as stories develop, while also demonstrating the editorial judgement and production skills needed to deliver high-quality reports to tight deadlines.,

• Lead ITV News coverage of Scotland, identifying and originating stories with national significance and audience impact.
• Break original and exclusive stories and develop high-impact investigations across a broad range of subjects.
• Provide authoritative live reporting and analysis from the scene of breaking news and major developing stories.
• Conceive, research, write, and occasionally shoot and edit broadcast-quality news packages and longer-form films.
• Develop distinctive treatments for stories, using creativity, strong journalism and newsgathering techniques to deliver compelling content
• Build and maintain a wide network of authoritative contacts across Scottish Government, politics, public services, police, emergency services, business, communities and other key organisations.
• Develop original content for ITV News digital platforms, including bespoke video, written journalism and innovative digital storytelling.
• Exercise strong autonomous editorial judgement, demonstrating initiative, imagination and a clear understanding of ITV News priorities.
• Cover breaking news across Scotland and, where editorially required, travel at short notice.
• Work to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, impartiality and editorial integrity.
• Ensure all reporting complies with Ofcom requirements, the law and ITV editorial guidelines.
• Take responsibility for the safety of yourself and colleagues while newsgathering, including systematic assessment of risks in the field.
• Ensure the bureau operates effectively within agreed resources, managing time and budgets responsibly.

• Keep senior editorial colleagues informed of significant developments and stories across the Scotland patch.
  
  A strong track record in television news reporting, with demonstrable experience of delivering original, exclusive and high-impact journalism.
• A proven ability to originate stories rather than simply follow the news agenda.
• Excellent news judgement, initiative and the ability to work independently while knowing when to collaborate.
• Deep knowledge and understanding of Scottish politics, society, public life and the issues affecting communities across Scotland.
• A strong network of contacts and the ability to develop trusted relationships with people at all levels.
• Experience of breaking news and reporting confidently from challenging and fast-moving situations.
• A proven ability to deliver compelling live reports, interviews and analysis on camera.
• Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to turn complex stories into clear, engaging television and digital journalism.
• Experience of producing high-quality television packages, with the ability to self-shoot and self-edit desirable.
• Experience of delivering longer-form films, investigations or ambitious current affairs journalism.
• A strong understanding of digital journalism and the ability to create distinctive content across multiple platforms.
• An enthusiasm for new technology and innovative approaches to newsgathering and storytelling.
• A confident broadcast voice and authoritative on-screen presence.
• The ability to remain calm and make sound editorial decisions under pressure.
• The ability to work effectively within resource and time constraints while maintaining high production standards.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with ITV News Scotland bureau team and colleagues at STV News with authority, clarity and trust.
• A thorough understanding of media law, Ofcom requirements and the importance of accuracy and due impartiality.
• A commitment to journalism that reflects the diversity of Scotland and the communities ITV News serves.
• A clean UK driver's licence
