Job purpose: Wallace Stone is a leading Scottish civil, structural, marine, and coastal engineering consultancy. Since 1973, we have delivered a wide range of projects including harbours, piers, ferry terminals, marinas, coastal protection schemes, bridges, and other infrastructure across Scotland.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Junior Civil Engineering Technician to join our Glasgow office and begin a career in civil engineering.

As a Junior Civil Engineering Technician, you will work as part of our engineering and technician team, supporting the delivery of civil and marine engineering projects across Scotland.

Your duties will include: -

(1) Producing computer aided design (CAD) drawings for civil and marine engineering projects under the direction of Senior/Principal Technicians and Engineers (2) Assisting with the preparation and organisation of project drawings and documentation (3) Following company drawing procedures and maintaining drawing standards (4) Maintaining drawing registers (5) Assisting with site surveys and collecting survey information (6) Assisting with the processing and presentation of survey data (7) Supporting engineers and technicians with project work.

What will I learn? This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop practical engineering skills while gaining a recognised qualification. The successful candidate will work four days per week in our Glasgow office and attend Glasgow Kelvin College (Springburn Campus) one day per week on a day-release basis, studying for an HNC in Civil Engineering over two years.

What qualifications or qualities are required? Applicants should have one of the following: Higher Maths or Physics (Grade C or above), OR Technological Higher (Grade C or above) with National 5 Maths, OR Successful completion of NQ in Engineering or Construction, OR Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering.

Applicants should also be: Enthusiastic about starting a career in civil engineering, keen to learn and develop new technical skills, able to work effectively as part of a small, experienced team, able to demonstrate good communication skills and committed to completing the HNC Civil Engineering qualification over the two-year programme. Previous experience in civil engineering or CAD is not essential, although any relevant experience would be advantageous.
