Lead Social Worker / Head of Support Services

& Counselling

SAH Band 7 Salary Range £44,481 to £50,450 pro rata per annum

35 hours per week 5 days over 7 days

Who are we?

St Andrews Hospice is a registered charity providing specialist palliative care for patients with life-limiting conditions which require complex symptom management, and/or end-of-life care. It is Lanarkshire's specialist hospice and provides multidisciplinary support for patients, their families and carers. The service is provided completely free of charge for the adult population of North and South Lanarkshire and is open to all without distinction of race, gender or creed.

What is the role?

To lead our Social Work, Support and Counselling service which is an established, experienced team. Do you have leadership and management experience? What we expect of you?

  • Taking responsibility for the resources to deliver clinical support services to achieve strong sustained patient focused services in line with local needs and national legislation.
  • Participating in service reviews; develop clinical support services to meet the commissioning needs for Specialist Palliative Care in the future
  • Working with the Deputy CEO/Head of Clinical Services, to be responsible for proposing, writing and implementing all organisational policies, procedures and guidelines in line with current legislation and professional guidance
  • Independently assessing complex need and plan appropriate levels of social work intervention, taking into account the needs of the other professionals in the wider multidisciplinary team, external agencies and the needs of the patient and family in order to arrive at a coordinated, effective intervention
  • Working within professional boundaries and appropriate legislative contexts, negotiate the parameters and roles of joint worked complex cases with the relevant statutory agencies, particularly if any case involves Adult Support and Protection or Child Protection concerns
  • Supporting the development of patient and relatives feedback systems, and also in the involvement of service users in hospice developments.
  • Provide management support to the multi-professional clinical support team. Promoting high staff morale by the development of harmonious relationships and participative involvement.
  • To be responsible for the budgets for those departments the post holder has responsibility for. To monitor and control all budgetary spend, monitoring staffing levels and resources to ensure all costs remain within budget.
  • To ensure that staff are trained and developed in a way which enables the hospice to achieve its objectives and realise the full potential of all employees.
  • Participate in delivering education programmes, taking an active role in influencing the psychological and emotional aspects of care.
