£53,508 – £59,178

35 hours per week

1x Permanent

1x Temporary secondment cover until 31 March 2028

About the role

Following movement within the directorate, we have an opportunity for one permanent and one temporary Learning and Development Adviser to join our Workforce Development team. The postholders will help shape and support national work with the social work, social care and children and young people workforce.

The Workforce Development team supports the sector to respond to policy, legislative and practice developments, understand and meet continuous professional learning (CPL) requirements, and use learning and development resources effectively. The post holder will work closely with Scottish Government, employers, representative organisations, learning providers, other regulators and colleagues across the SSSC to develop, deliver and evaluate work that supports a trusted, skilled, confident and valued workforce.

The temporary post may be suitable for secondment arrangements until 31 March 2028. At the end of the secondment, the post holder will return to their substantive post. The permanent post is not suitable for secondment arrangements.


What you need to succeed

  • Working knowledge of social services in Scotland, with particular expertise in children and young people services (residential child care, ELC and School age childcare) and/or older adult care.
  • Experience of identifying learning and development needs and designing, developing, delivering or evaluating practice-focused learning, guidance or support.
  • Good understanding of national policy and legislative developments affecting social work, social care and children and young people services.
  • Understanding of the SSSC’s role, including the Codes of Practice, registration and CPL requirements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with employers, workers, Scottish Government, partner organisations, learning providers and colleagues across the SSSC.
  • Professional curiosity, sound judgement and the ability to use evidence, sector insight and stakeholder feedback to shape practical workforce development activity.

The starting salary for this post will be at the minimum point of the advertised pay scale.
