Legal Advisor| 6 Month Contract | (Inside IR35) | Remote (Edinburgh) | Starting ASAP

Day Rate: Up to 400

Job Description:

Harvey Nash's Pub Sec client is looking for an appropriately qualified and experienced legal adviser on a one day per week basis to provide it with legal expertise and support, particularly in relation to its statutory functions and their relationship to the wider consumer, policy and regulatory landscape.

The clients work cuts across various areas of both devolved and reserved policy which affect consumers. It has powers and duties under both Scottish and UK legislation and receives levy funding to work in policy areas where consumer advocacy is devolved but where the relevant markets are reserved to the UK Parliament. It therefore operates within a complex legal framework.

The client has, identified a need for a legal adviser to provide specialist advice and support on legal issues which may arise in relation to its statutory functions. These include its consumer advocacy and advice, representation, information, research and investigation and other related functions.

Main Duties:

  • Providing internal support to colleagues and the board on legal issues as required through triage and provision of expert advice.
  • Providing legal input as required in relation to both the clients existing functions under Scottish and UK legislation and any potential future statutory functions.
  • Providing input as required regarding responses to queries (including freedom of information requests) from external parties.
  • Drafting/providing input into memoranda of understanding, data sharing agreements and other agreements/letters with other organisations, as required.
  • Developing a good working relationship with the clients external legal firm.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • An appropriate legal qualification.
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislation relating to consumers and consumer bodies.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret legislation, and to explain legal concepts in a clear and understandable way.
  • Excellent stakeholder, relationship building and communication skills to engage internally and externally.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and plan workload.
