Legal Section Head

The successful candidate will be committed to providing timely, accurate and practical legal advice to a range of Council and linked services, and will bring experience and values which will help lead the legal team and ensure that the team continues to develop the skills, knowledge and experience to deliver for the Council and the community.

This post is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to develop their own skills as a lawyer and as a leader, supporting a small team of professionals and specialists to deliver the Council's licensing functions, support the Council's education and social work services, provide advice and support directly to senior officers, Council and committees, and to work closely with colleagues across the Council to provide high quality public services and corporate functions.

The ideal candidate will bring experience of providing high quality legal advice to clients, preferably within the local government or public sectors, representing clients in a range of courts and tribunals, and working closely with elected members.

The post will require regular office-based working to support team management and development, as well as attendance at courts and meetings, but also allows for flexible and remote working in accordance with the Council's policies., This post is politically restricted in accordance with the Local Government and Housing Act 1989. Accordingly, on accepting this appointment you will be disqualified from becoming or remaining a Member of a Local Authority, Parliament, the Scottish Parliament or from undertaking certain political activities as defined in the Regulations introduced from time to time by the Secretary of State for Scotland., The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975.

The preferred candidate will be required to complete a Level 2 Disclosure check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.
