Maintenance Operative

Looking for a hands-on role where your skills keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes? As a Maintenance Operative at Robin House, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining a safe, welcoming and high-quality environment for children and families.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for delivering day-to-day maintenance across the hospice – from routine inspections and planned maintenance to reactive repairs and site upkeep. You’ll work closely with the Maintenance Engineer and wider team to ensure the building, grounds and equipment remain safe, compliant and fully operational.

This is a practical, varied role where no two days are the same – from fixing defects and completing improvement works, to supporting compliance checks and working alongside staff, volunteers and contractors in a sensitive hospice environment. The work you do directly supports the experience of children, families and staff every day.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have skill and experience in the following areas:

• Experience in a multi-skilled maintenance role, covering a range of trades such as plumbing, electrical, joinery or general building fabric
• Good understanding of health and safety legislation and safe working practices in a maintenance environment
• Ability to carry out planned preventative maintenance tasks and respond to reactive repairs effectively
• Confident working independently, using your initiative to prioritise tasks and escalate issues where needed
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work sensitively in a hospice setting alongside staff, volunteers and families
• A positive, practical approach with a willingness to support a wide range of tasks across the hospice and grounds
• Hold a driving licence and be willing to travel

Please note that a driving licence will be essential for this role. There will be a requirement to transport yourself and materials between CHAS and NHS sites.

Our team provide out of hours cover on an ad hoc basis and some shift work should be expected (compensated in line with CHAS policy).
