As a Water and Biodiversity lead, you will play a key part in scaling our impact and building our wider growth story. Your work will be client-focused, building through leadership, identifying challenges and opportunities for driving systemic change and supporting teams in building and implementing viable business driven solutions.

In joining the Sustainable Futures team, you will be contributing to publications and events, and lead / be part of collaborative business plans, engagements and proposals to help our clients act on climate issues.

Your work will be underpinned by innovation, across a wide spectrum from analysis to solution design, post-project monitoring and evaluation.

Typically, you will lead or be part of an integrated multidisciplinary environmental, strategy and team. In your targeted accounts, you will build strong relationships and an understanding of the sustainability strategy and client business, becoming a trusted advisory partner.

Why this role?

As a Water and Biodiversity Lead, Senior Consultant in Sustainable Futures you will be expected to :

  • Help set the direction to be driving forward our business and scale our impact together with our clients.

  • Model our values and behaviours, coach and develop members of the team.

  • Become a strong industry voice, creating thought leadership content (white papers, articles, reports) and participate in industry facing events.

  • Utilise your expertise in water and biodiversity to solve complex and ambiguous client challenges, bringing structure, rigour and creative thinking to deliver high quality, effective work with little management oversight.

  • Lead / contribute to business development activities for the Water and Biodiversity practice, including opportunity identification and proposal development and presentation.

  • Balance between the high level and technical aspects of water and biodiversity, with the skill to cover strategy, reporting, and implementation of change programmes.

  • Run all aspects related to our business on your subject area (costing, contracting, invoicing etc.)


  • As part of your role you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the business and your own personal growth, through activities that form part of the following categories :
  • Business Development Leading / contributing to proposals, RFPs, bids, proposition development, client pitch contribution, client hosting at events.

  • Internal contribution Campaign development, internal think-tanks, whitepapers, practice development (operations, recruitment, team events & activities), offering development.

  • Learning & development Training to support your career development and the skills demand within the company, certifications etc.

    University degree preferably at Masters level in a technical, analytical or business discipline

  • Practical experience of working on sustainability engagements, with proven business development and consulting experience in a top-tier strategy or boutique sustainability consulting firm

  • Strong technical expertise in biodiversity and water, with proven ability to translate highly technical insights into innovative solutions to drive change

  • Experience working with international stakeholders with excellent communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills

  • A highly entrepreneurial individual, that is collaborative and innovative while technically grounded

  • Confidence in articulating innovative solutions and a proven ability to enlist support and commitment from peers, ideally in a matrixed organisation
