We are seeking a Manager to join our Sustainable Business Solutions team as a Geospatial Solution Engineer, focusing on Government and Public Sector. This role is ideal for individuals with strong technical expertise in geospatial data and cloud engineering, who are passionate about applying these skills to critical public sector challenges, including urban planning, environmental management, public safety, and national infrastructure development. You will design, build, and optimise geospatial data solutions, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver impactful public services and policy outcomes. You will lead technical workstreams, mentor junior colleagues, and ensure robust, secure, and scalable geospatial solutions that meet public sector standards and serve citizen needs. Key Responsibilities Geospatial Engineering & Data Management
- Design, build, and optimise geospatial data pipelines and solutions on cloud platforms.
- Develop and maintain geospatial data schemas and ensure data quality and validation.
- Write modular, tested, and documented Python code in a team environment. Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead technical workstreams end-to-end, including scoping, estimation, delivery, and QA.
- Mentor junior team members and assure the quality of their output.
- Implement version control, branching strategies, code review, and CI/CD pipelines. Client Engagement & Solution Design
- Translate client requirements into technical designs and communicate trade-offs to stakeholders.
- Ensure responsible handling of sensitive data, including security and access controls.
- Support sustainability and infrastructure use cases with geospatial solutions.
Experience with geospatial data formats, tools, or platforms (e.g., PostGIS, GeoPandas, Shapely, QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine). - Strong proficiency in Python, including modular, tested, and documented code.
- Advanced SQL and experience designing and optimising data schemas.
- Hands-on experience building and operating data pipelines on cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure).
- Experience with version control, branching strategies, code review, and CI/CD pipelines (Git).
- Demonstrable experience leading technical workstreams end-to-end.
- Experience mentoring junior team members and assuring quality.
- Experience implementing data testing and validation (e.g., dbt tests, unit tests).
- Ability to translate client requirements into technical designs and communicate trade-offs.
- Awareness of data security, access controls, and responsible handling of sensitive data.
- Experience and interest in public sector organisations and initiatives, including urban planning, energy, critical national infrastructure, environmental policy, and public service delivery. Desirable
- Experience with data orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt, Prefect, Cloud Composer).
- Experience with containerisation or infrastructure-as-code (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform).
- Experience developing full-stack prototypes or PoCs, including front-end data visualisations.
- Applied experience with machine learning frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Experience contributing to proposals, scoping documents, or client development activity.
- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot), including prompt engineering and code review of AI-generated output.
- Academic education and/or working experience in environmental planning, infrastructure, engineering, geospatial science, or nature/biodiversity is an advantage.
