Full Job Description

The role of Materials Buyer involves ensuring a steady supply of materials to the Machining Centre while also providing technical and cost-effective solutions to maintain the quality of components.

Your understanding of material grades and conversions, as well as machining requirements, will be crucial in this role. You'll be responsible for monitoring the supply and delivery of raw materials, managing stock, and forecasting future needs. Additionally, your coordination with the Production Manager and Planning Group will be essential for the smooth operation of the shop floor.

Your experience in these areas will undoubtedly contribute to the efficient functioning of the manufacturing process, ensuring high-quality products are consistently delivered.,

  • Source and procure materials, supplies and equipment required for production and operational needs.

  • Liaise with suppliers to obtain quotes, negotiate contracts and place orders, ensuring competitive pricing and favorable terms.

  • Evaluate supplier performance based on factors such as quality, reliability and delivery

  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with inventory management to ensure adequate stock levels whilst ensuring excess inventory is minimised.

  • Maintain accurate records of purchasing activities

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders - predominantly production to understand material requirements and develop procurement strategies

  • Identify cost saving opportunities and implement cost effective purchasing practices to optimise spending.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and regulatory requirements

  • Resolve any issues or discrepancies related to purchasing

    Tertiary education in an Engineering discipline

  • Experience in a similar position

  • Ability to review contractual documents

  • Knowledge of material certification

  • Awareness of Oil and Gas Process Technology

  • Experience with managing suppliers and supply chains


  • SKILLS,TRAINING & SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE:

  • Previous experience in a supervisory position

  • Manufacturing techniques - Lean, Six Sigma

  • Material specifications, grading & conversions
