Full Job Description
Are you an experienced engineer with a background in crane systems, mechanical handling, or mechanical design? Do you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment? If so, this could be the ideal opportunity for you. In this role, you will support the ongoing safety, reliability, and operational effectiveness of critical infrastructure associated with defence and high-hazard operations. You'll work as part of a specialist engineering team, providing technical expertise across the design, assessment, maintenance, and lifecycle management of mechanical handling systems and supporting infrastructure. You will bring broad engineering experience, ideally gained in mechanical design, mechanical handling, lifting equipment, maintenance, or installation environments.
- Experience in the design, assessment, maintenance, or operation of mechanical systems, ideally including overhead travelling (EOT) cranes and mechanical handling equipment.
- Familiarity with lifting equipment regulations and standards, including LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations).
- Understanding of engineering design principles and applicable British and international standards.
- Experience assessing equipment condition, design intent, performance, and continued fitness for service.
- Ability to develop practical, innovative, and cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to make informed decisions based on technical evidence and data.
- Knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations.
