Full Job Description

Main Purpose of the Role

Working within Perth & Kinross Council is more than a job, it's about being part of something meaningful. It's about being part of an organisation that puts people at the heart of all we do and provides opportunities to make a real difference by enhancing every life we touch.

We currently have the following opportunity:

Mechanical Services Technician - PKC13912
£38,310 - £42,252
Pullar House, Perth

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Services Technician to join Perth & Kinross Council.

This role sits within the Energy and Engineering Team in Property Services, which delivers a wide range of essential building-related services across the Council’s public buildings estate. The position has been created to support ongoing improvement works and ensure continued statutory compliance across our diverse property portfolio.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and managing mechanical infrastructure, including gas and water services, ensuring all works comply with relevant regulations, standards, and best practice within operational Council buildings.

While the post is primarily aligned to normal working hours, there may be occasions where flexibility is required to work outwith these hours to minimise disruption to critical services.

In addition to core responsibilities, the role will contribute to a range of mechanical and energy-related infrastructure projects, including:

  • Replacement of heating and ventilation systems
  • Building Management System (BMS) upgrades
  • Other strategic improvement works across the estate

A key aspect of the role will be supporting the Council’s energy efficiency and sustainability goals. This includes incorporating low-carbon and renewable technologies into project designs and proposals, ensuring solutions are cost-effective and energy efficient, and aligned with future energy saving targets.

Please note, we are currently unable to offer sponsorship for this post.

Skills & Experience Required

We are looking for an individual with design and contract management experience for small to medium-sized projects within their area of expertise. To succeed in this role, you will require excellent planning and organisational skills, along with the ability to deliver and implement projects within agreed deadlines. Experience in design and contract management is essential.

The successful candidate must be capable of developing innovative solutions and providing technical support. You should be self-motivated, confident, and possess strong communication skills, enabling you to build effective working relationships.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of Property Professionals, you will engage with a wide and diverse range of stakeholders, including both technical and non-technical audiences. Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office is essential, and experience of other packages such as AutoCAD would be beneficial.

You must have a valid UK driving licence, as this post requires travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.

Are you a time-served engineer looking for a position with excellent benefits? We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to working to a high standard while delivering excellent customer service.

At Perth & Kinross Council, we recognise the importance of a healthy work-life balance. We offer supportive management and flexible working arrangements to help you achieve this. The successful candidate will also have access to further training and support to encourage continued professional development. The following qualifications are not essential but would strengthen an application:

  • HNC in Building Services or an associated engineering discipline
  • Degree in Building Services or an associated engineering discipline
  • Gas Safe registration
