Full Job Description

We're searching for a Media Relations Manager to join our team who will:

  • Help devise and deliver the media relations strategy

  • Build strong relationships with journalists, colleagues and partners

  • Create engaging content to tell our story in both consumer and corporate media

  • Responsible for articulating our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) story, from charitable partnerships to community initiatives, and driving forward our inclusive banking agenda

  • Be part of our regular 'on call' press office rota.

    Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to construct and deliver clear and consistent messaging

  • A deep understanding of the modern media landscape, including traditional media, new media, online and social media

  • Great news judgement and a 'nose for the story' - able to identify news issues and PR opportunities

  • Experience of corporate communications, within an in-house team, agency environment or media outlet

  • The ability to build a network of internal and external stakeholders and confidently advise Virgin Money spokespeople

  • Creative ability and self-starter with the drive & aptitude to transform ideas into fantastic output.

  • It's a bonus if you have but not essential
  • Experience of working in a regulated environment, such as financial services.

  • Demonstrable experience of crisis management.

    The Media Relations team is responsible for promoting and protecting the bank's reputation, in support of our vision to become the UK's best digital bank and our purpose to 'make you happier about money'. Sitting at the heart of the Corporate Affairs team, alongside Colleague Communications and Public Affairs, the Media Relations team drives forward our media strategy spanning proactive storytelling, consumer and corporate PR, issues management and thought leadership, as well as delivering a coordinated external response in times of crisis.
