Job purpose: Are you looking to build a rewarding career ensuring safe, healthy, and compliant working environments? We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Occupational Health & Safety Apprentice.

In this entry-level role, you will earn while you learn, combining hands-on workplace experience with structured training to achieve a nationally recognised SCQF Level 7 qualification. Working alongside experienced safety professionals, you will gain practical skills in risk assessment, workplace inspections, incident investigation, and safety compliance across our operations.

What will I learn? Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification: How to identify workplace hazards, evaluate risks, and assist in applying suitable control measures using the hierarchy of controls.

Workplace Inspections & Auditing: Conducting structured safety walks, recognising non-compliance, and documenting findings accurately.

Incident & Near-Miss Investigation: Learning basic root-cause analysis, gathering evidence, recording incidents correctly, and recommending corrective actions.

Health & Safety Legislation & Frameworks: Developing a practical understanding of key UK and Scottish statutory duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and secondary regulations (e.g., COSHH, RIDDOR, Management Regulations).

Safe Systems of Work (SSoW): Assisting in drafting, reviewing, and evaluating Method Statements, Risk Assessments (RAMS), and Permits to Work.

Compliance & Record Management: Maintaining up-to-date health and safety management systems, training logs, equipment maintenance registers, and audit trails.

Occupational Health & Hygiene Awareness: Monitoring workplace welfare factors, including ergonomics, noise, hazardous substances, and stress/wellbeing initiatives.

Emergency Preparedness: Supporting fire safety arrangements, first-aid provision, and emergency evacuation protocols.

Delivering Safety Briefings: Planning and presenting workplace safety inductions and informal toolbox talks to site team members or staff.

Stakeholder Engagement: Effectively communicating safety advice to workers, managers, contractors, and safety representatives to foster a positive safety culture.

Professional Writing: Drafting clear, concise inspection reports, safety alerts, and formal correspondence.

What qualifications or qualities are required? Strong communication skills and a high attention to detail.

Good problem-solving ability and a proactive attitude.

Proficiency in basic IT applications (Microsoft Office/Word/Excel).

Minimum of 3 National 5s (or equivalent), including English and Maths preferred.
