Full Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this position is early, late, weekend and on call

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Senior Charge Nurse to lead the OMFS Theatre Team.  Our 7 operating theatre complex includes 2 OMFS Theatres and 5 Neurosurgery Theatres, with Patient Reception and Recovery Rooms.   We provide acute emergency and elective Oral maxillo-facial care as part of the Regional Service to the West of Scotland.

You must:

  • Be a registered nurse with leadership skills and experience in the field of Maxillo-facial nursing at Band 6 Charge Nurse level.
  • Ensure safe and effective clinical practice and enhance the patient's experience of care.
  • Manage and develop the performance of the team and contribute to the delivery of the organizations objectives.
  • Ensure Healthcare Associated Infections and key performance indicators are applied to all theatre teams e.g. hand hygiene audits and environmental audits.
  • Promote teamwork within a multi-professional environment, demonstrating critical analysis and decision making skills, leading the delivery of a clinically excellent, high quality service influencing and facilitating change within OMFS Theatre department and where appropriate the organization.
  • Ensure visibility for patients and carers/relatives on a daily basis.
  • Promote a clean comfortable, caring and safe environment for staff, patients and visitors by ensuring compliance with legislation, policies and protocols including health and safety, healthcare associated infection, risk management and critical incident reporting and analysis, assessing and managing actual and potential risks to health and well-being.
  • You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to patient-centred care, quality improvement, continuing professional development and clinical expertise in OMFS perioperative care.

Skills/Requirement:

  • You will demonstrate flexibility, and a willingness to participate in service progression and growth.
  • The ability to lead and manage change is essential. 
  • The successful candidate will have significant OMFS experience in the scrub role.
