Role Purpose

Berwickshire High School is seeking an adaptable and relationship-focused Outreach Teacher to support young people experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance. This is a 0.5 FTE post, providing a flexible educational offer in school and across agreed outreach settings.

You will plan and deliver tailored learning, strengthen engagement and wellbeing, and coordinate bespoke curriculum packages that may include school-based learning, wider achievement, community opportunities and preparation for positive post-school destinations. You will work closely with each young person, their family, school colleagues, an outreach Pupil Support Assistant and partner services to set achievable outcomes and review progress.

We are looking for a registered teacher who can combine high expectations with patience, consistency and a calm, strengths-based approach. You should be confident working independently, adapting learning around individual interests and needs, maintaining clear professional records and contributing to risk-managed off-site provision. Experience of additional support needs, nurture, trauma-informed practice, alternative provision or EBSA would be advantageous. Forest School or outdoor-learning experience would also be welcomed.

A full driving licence is essential because regular travel between agreed outreach locations is an intrinsic part of the post. The successful candidate will require PVG Scheme membership for regulated work with children.

• Full registration with The General Teaching Council for Scotland or Provisional Registration if Probationary period has not yet been completed.

• Evidence of relevant professional learning and commitment to continuing professional development.

• Full driving licence and ability to travel between outreach locations.*
