Full Job Description
Your new company
Our client is a well-established professional services firm with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality payroll services to a diverse client base. With a dedicated team of payroll specialists, they pride themselves on combining technical expertise with a personal and responsive approach to client service. Due to continued growth, they are now seeking an experienced Payroll Senior Executive to join their Glasgow office and play a key role in supporting both clients and colleagues.
Your new role
As a Payroll Senior Executive, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of payroll clients, ensuring payrolls are processed accurately, compliantly, and within agreed deadlines. Working with businesses of varying sizes and complexity, you will take ownership of the payroll cycle, providing clients with a reliable and professional service while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and confidentiality.
You will be confident processing complex payrolls, including manual gross-to-net calculations, complex tax codes, retrospective adjustments, and higher-rate tax considerations. As a senior member of the team, you will also act as a trusted point of contact for clients, providing guidance on payroll legislation, auto enrolment requirements, statutory payments, and HMRC compliance matters.
Alongside your client responsibilities, you will support the wider payroll function by sharing knowledge, mentoring junior team members, contributing to process improvements, and helping to drive best practice across the department. This role offers the opportunity to combine technical payroll expertise with leadership and relationship management responsibilities.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this position, you will have previous experience managing end-to-end payrolls within a payroll bureau, accountancy practice, or professional services environment. A Level 3 Payroll qualification would be advantageous, although equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
You will possess strong technical payroll knowledge, including a thorough understanding of payroll legislation, Auto-Enrolment, statutory absences, and HMRC requirements. Experience working with payroll software and integrated systems is essential, while advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables, would be beneficial.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively. You will also be a confident communicator with proven experience building client relationships and supporting or mentoring colleagues within a team environment.
What you'll get in return
In return, you will join a highly regarded organisation that values its people and offers a supportive and collaborative working environment. You'll have the opportunity to further develop your payroll expertise while working with a varied client portfolio and a team of experienced professionals.
The benefits package includes 25 days' annual leave plus statutory bank holidays, with additional entitlement awarded through length of service. Employees also have access to a buy and sell holiday scheme, life assurance, a Cycle to Work scheme, a greener car scheme, and a discounted shopping platform. Alongside a competitive salary, the business offers genuine opportunities for professional development and long-term career progression.
If you're an experienced payroll professional looking for a senior-level position where you can make a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
