Full Job Description

As a Planning and Control Officer you will work within Operations providing a point of contact and liaison between your team, the Gas Control Centre, Central Planning, Construction and Asset to effectively manage a within-year plan, ensuring all stakeholders are aware of their responsibilities in the process, monitoring performance against plan in order to look for ways to improve in subsequent years.

You will be working with Area Planning teams to ensure area plans are built optimally utilising agreed outages effectively. Identify and escalate risk in the plan effectively; reviewing potential risks in the within year timescale, liaising with key stakeholders to assess the risk and understand required mitigating actions.

Working collaboratively with Operations, Construction, Engineering & Asset Management, you will co-ordinate and manage conflict in the plan through cross functional working. You will work with the management team to ensure all planning decisions within year are effectively controlled, managed and are communicated with reasoning to all relevant stakeholders.

You will identify the need for work to be re-planned and manage change requests to the plan efficiently determining the limiting factor and ensure all re-planning activities are carried out in a timely manner, work with process owners to drive improvements in the core planning process and facilitate post works reviews in coordination with operational control.

To be successful in this role you will have broad experience around planning process across a variety of work types, have an understanding of asset maintenance, resource requirements, be able to formulate robust work plans and to appropriate debate and/or challenge conflicting views.

Some of the planning related systems we use are currently being replaced as we implement Maximo so now is a good time to join us and learn how everything works as extensive training will be given on our new systems and processes.

Communication skills are key in this role, alongside being able to multi task and prioritise workloads in a high paced environment and to tight deadlines. You will need project planning experience or be willing to learn that skill, be able to adapt positively to change and it would be desirable if you had experience with maintenance systems. This role will require some travel, therefore you must also hold a full UK driving licence.

At National Gas, we really take the time to understand what you want to achieve out of your role and career, that's why we encourage people to speak about their personalised development plan early on. This might be developing in your existing role, you might even have your sights set on a higher level position, whatever it is we will give you the support and tools needed to succeed.

We are proud of our role at the heart of Britain's energy system. Our skilled colleagues bring gas to around 23m homes and over 200,000 businesses, including heavy industries and power stations that keep the lights on, all whilst enabling the transition of our network to hydrogen.

We are a flexible working organisation. At National Gas, we are committed to building a workforce that represents the communities we serve. We celebrate the different experiences our colleagues bring to our organisation, and strongly encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply.

Studies suggest that women tend to apply only if they meet 100% of the criteria. If you resonate with our mission and meet a good portion of our requirements, we encourage you to apply.
