Full Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a capable and enthusiastic playground/lunchtime supervisor to work in Langholm Primary School.
Duties would be:
Actively monitor pupils across the playground, dining hall, corridors, and toilets to maintain safety, good behaviour, and positive interactions.
Encourage respectful behaviour, apply school behaviour policies consistently, and intervene early to prevent conflicts or unsafe play.
Support children in resolving disagreements calmly, modelling positive communication and restorative approaches.
Stay alert to signs of distress or safeguarding concerns and report them immediately to the Child Protection Co-ordinator
Encourage inclusive games, help children join in activities, and promote positive social play.
Assist pupils with routines such as queuing, seating, clearing trays, and maintaining a calm, orderly environment.
Share relevant information with teachers or senior staff, including behaviour concerns, accidents, or notable achievements.
Support pupils who may feel lonely, upset, or overwhelmed, helping them rejoin play or find appropriate support.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
