The successful candidate will be based at our Ardrossan Ferry Terminal, with occasional working at Troon to support operational needs

Positions Available

1 x 24 hour permanent position

1 x 20 hour temporary position (until 18 October 2026)

Role Overview

As a valued member of the Port Team, you’ll play a vital part in delivering a positive, professional, and welcoming experience for everyone who uses our facilities - from island residents and visitors to our commercial partners.

You’ll help ensure the safe, secure and efficient running of the port, supporting daily operations including vessel movements, traffic management, pier maintenance, and maintaining a clean, organised environment that reflects our high standards.

Day to Day Working

This is a varied and hands‑on role with a dynamic shift pattern that includes weekends, public holidays, early starts, and evening work.

Some days you’ll be there to welcome the first customers of the morning; other shifts will see you supporting operations through to the final sailing of the day. Flexibility is key, and occasional work outside normal hours may be required to meet operational demands.

You’ll receive unsociable hours payments of 12.5% for shifts starting before 08:00 and/or ending after 19:00.

Ticketing & Customer Service

  • Provide fast, friendly, and accurate ticket sales.
  • Offer clear guidance to help customers choose the most suitable travel options.
  • Operate ticketing systems and equipment confidently and efficiently.
  • Respond to customer enquiries and resolve issues with a professional, supportive approach.
  • Assist customers during disruption, including re‑bookings, cancellations, and onward travel arrangements.

Cash Handling & Administration

  • Process cash and card payments accurately and securely.
  • Issue receipts and maintain accurate transaction records.
  • Enter customer and ticketing information into systems with precision.
  • Record and report sailing statistics to support operational planning.

Port Operations

  • Safely moor vessels in line with established procedures.
  • Marshal vehicles and direct traffic during embarkation and disembarkation.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and cleaning duties.
  • Identify and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.

Equipment, Safety & Security

  • Operate equipment such as forklifts and vans safely and responsibly.
  • Monitor the pier area to maintain a secure environment.
  • Enforce safety regulations and respond to incidents or emergencies as required.

You’ll also carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the Port Manager.
