Pre Construction Engineer

We are seeking a Pre-Construction Engineer (Electrical) to support the development and tendering of grid-connected BESS, solar PV and HV infrastructure projects across the UK.

Working closely with commercial and delivery teams, you will ensure tenders are technically robust, accurately priced and fully buildable, while managing technical risk and project interfaces from tender through to handover.

Key Responsibilities

- Review Employer’s Requirements, specifications, drawings and grid connection documentation.

- Identify technical risks, assumptions, exclusions and compliance requirements.

- Develop compliance/deviation schedules and manage technical queries.

- Define electrical scopes covering HV/LV, protection, earthing, cables, containment, auxiliary and control systems.

- Complete quantity take-offs and support cost build-ups and pricing.

- Develop value engineering proposals and alternative technical solutions.

- Prepare detailed electrical subcontract scopes, including testing, commissioning, ITPs and quality requirements.

- Develop responsibility matrices and clearly define civil, electrical and commissioning interfaces.

- Technically assess and normalise subcontractor quotations.

- Lead technical handovers to project delivery teams, ensuring assumptions, obligations and risks are clearly communicated.

- Provide technical support to delivery teams where clarification of tender assumptions is required.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.

- 5+ years’ experience in power, utilities, renewable energy, BESS, solar or HV infrastructure.

- Strong understanding of HV and LV electrical systems.

- Experience in tendering, estimating, electrical design or package development.

- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications and protection philosophies.

- Working knowledge of BS 7671 and relevant UK power industry standards.

- Understanding of NEC3/NEC4 contracts.

- Strong commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable:

- BESS and/or solar project experience.

- Experience with DNO, IDNO, NERS or National Grid projects.

- Knowledge of G99 grid connections.

- Chartered status or working towards professional registration.

- Experience with estimating and quantity take-off software.

Suitable Backgrounds

This role would suit candidates currently working as a Pre-Construction Engineer, Tender/Bid Engineer, Senior Tender Engineer, Electrical Estimator, Technical Bid Manager, Work Package Engineer or Electrical Design Engineer looking to move into a more commercial, front-end role.

Salary and start date is negotiable, dependent on experience.
