Full Job Description

Altrad are currently on the lookout for a Principal Lifting Engineer to join the business to provide specialist technical expertise in lifting operations and support operational teams with lifting engineering solutions. Key Deliverables:

  • Provide subject matter expertise in lifting operations to support operational and project requirements across the business.
  • Prepare and review Lift Plans and Lifting Risk Assessments in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Provide technical lifting engineering advice and support to operational teams and projects.
  • Ensure structural considerations relating to lifting operations are appropriately assessed and engineered in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Support the delivery of engineering excellence through adherence to discipline procedures, technical standards and engineering best practice.
  • Participate in and support incident investigations relating to lifting activities where required.
  • Maintain personal competence and pursue continuous professional development in lifting engineering and related disciplines.
  • Provide technical coaching, mentoring and guidance to engineers and operational personnel.
  • Support the recruitment, development and retention of competent engineering personnel within the discipline.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of technical safety standards and technical assurance processes relating to lifting operations.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in lifting engineering processes and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, project teams and operational personnel.
  • Support the delivery of contracted engineering activities in line with project requirements and business objectives.
  • Act as Technical Authority for Lifting where required in accordance with the company technical authority framework.
  • Support discipline management in the effective allocation and management of engineering resources.
  • Ensure lessons learned and improvement opportunities from lifting activities are captured and shared across the business.
  • Deputise for the Lead Engineer or Discipline Manager where required.

    Extensive knowledge and experience in lifting engineering and lifting operations within an industrial or engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding and application of LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA and relevant British and international lifting standards.
  • Experience preparing Lift Plans and undertaking Lifting Risk Assessments.
  • Experience in the design and assessment of lifting equipment and lifting points, including lifting lugs, trunnions, lifting beams and spreader beams.
  • Ability to calculate centre of gravity of loads and select appropriate lifting equipment and accessories.
  • Degree qualified in Engineering (BEng / MEng / MSc) or equivalent, with Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years relevant industry experience in lifting engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams and produce clear technical reports.
