Orkney Islands Council is looking for a diligent and motivated Procurement Officer to join the Council's Procurement service on a full-time permanent basis.

The Procurement team is small and very busy, working hard to secure the effective and timely acquisition of goods, services and works, and the continued achievement of best value in accordance with the Council’s corporate policies.

The post holder will work with the Service Manager (Procurement) in the provision of procurement support and advice across the full range of local government service areas. The post holder will also actively help the Procurement Team to meet the challenges of a number of exciting new strategic infrastructure development projects.

The successful candidate may be a trained procurement professional or may simply have an interest in procurement, ideally with experience of public procurement, and be willing to expand their knowledge base to undertake procurement projects according to their level of expertise. The successful candidate should also have good task management, planning, communication and analytical skills.

For appointment at Grade G:
You should be qualified at SCQF level 8 i.e. HND, SVQ4, OR, where the qualification is not held, a minimum of 2 years’ previous relevant work experience is required.

For appointment at or progression to Grade H:
You should be qualified at SCQF level 8 i.e. HND, SVQ4, AND have a minimum of 2 years’ previous relevant work experience and be working towards CIPS Level 4 Diploma in Procurement and Supply.

For appointment at or progression to Grade I
You should be qualified at SCQF level 8 i.e. HND, SVQ4, AND have a minimum of 4 years’ previous relevant work experience. You also need to hold CIPS Level 4 Diploma in Procurement and Supply.

This post is subject to Basic Disclosure Scotland clearance.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirement of the Service.
