Full Job Description
A well established architecture practice in Glasgow is looking to appoint an Architect or Project Architect to join their growing team. This role is being created due to continued workload and an expanding project pipeline rather than as a replacement hire, making it a particularly good opportunity for someone looking to join a stable practice with long term prospects.
The practice has built a strong reputation across Scotland for delivering thoughtful, well designed projects with a particular focus on residential and regeneration work. Their portfolio includes a wide range of housing projects, from urban infill developments to larger scale residential schemes, alongside selected mixed use and commercial projects. They are known for balancing strong design thinking with a practical delivery mindset, producing architecture that responds to context while remaining commercially and technically robust.
They are ideally looking for an architect who is around five or more years post qualification and comfortable operating at Project Architect level, although the exact title can be shaped around the experience of the successful candidate. The key requirement is someone who has experience working on residential projects beyond small scale domestic work. Experience delivering housing developments, multi unit residential schemes or mixed use projects would be particularly relevant. However, candidates with strong commercial, office or mixed use experience may also be considered, particularly if they are interested in expanding their residential exposure.
The role will suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of projects and contributing to both the design and delivery process. The successful candidate will be involved across multiple stages of projects, working closely with colleagues, consultants and clients to help move projects from early concept through planning and technical development towards construction. The practice values architects who can think strategically about projects while also being comfortable resolving technical challenges and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
Revit experience would be advantageous but is not essential, as the practice provides in house training and support for those transitioning into the software. What matters more is strong architectural judgement, good communication skills and a collaborative approach to working within project teams.
This is a Glasgow studio based position and they are keen for the successful candidate to be an active part of the studio environment. The expectation is typically four days in the office each week, with some flexibility possible, but regular presence in the Glasgow studio is important for collaboration and project coordination.
Salary is likely to fall within the region of £40,000 to £48,000 depending on experience, with some flexibility for particularly strong candidates. The practice places strong emphasis on internal progression and team development, so they are generally cautious about bringing in very senior hires externally unless there is a clear strategic fit. For the right architect, however, this role offers an excellent opportunity to step into a position with genuine responsibility and room to grow within an established practice.
They are keen to move quickly with interviews and would ideally like to appoint someone who is able to start within a relatively short notice period (up to 4 weeks) This is a strong opportunity for an architect looking to develop their career within a respected Scottish practice working on meaningful, well delivered projects.
